How to Choose a Mini-Laptop That Fits You

How to Choose a Mini-Laptop That Fits You

Mini-Laptop are all the new craze, but make sure you know exactly what you’re buying before you buy it! Here are some steps to keep in mind before buying…

There’s a couple Mini-Laptop floating out there that run strictly based on flash memory, instead of a hard drive, to store all its files. The Dell Inspiron 9 is one of these. This mini-laptop has 4 gigs of built in “flash RAM” to store files, including the operating system. Windows XP runs at about a gig of space off the bat, so now you’re down to three. If you’re looking for something viable, and something with just plain “working space”, find one with a hard drive. Most come with a nice 120 gig drive.

Ask yourself “If i was stranded on a boat for a week with this thing, would i like it?” Most people have mixed feelings about it, after finally looking at a miniature screen the size of a portable DVD player all week. They can heavy on the eyes. There’s also a few out there with an external screen connector. This is a MEGA advantage. You could take something as large as a 52′ plasma and connect it to this to at least see what the hell you’re looking at.
There’s a reason why it isnt running Vista. If you truly look at the specs, these machines are built so small, that they lack the features most normal laptops have. There are no CD/DVD drives anywhere on the unit. If you run your systems off a network and have a file server/main computer, this really is no problem. Perhaps you have a flash drive…even better. These machines run Windows XP, because simply, nobody would want to run Windows Vista off a 1.6gHz Atom Processor with 1 gig of RAM.

Keep it CLEAN!!! These machines are packed. nike air max . No breathing room. Most people who load up there machines with unmentionable websites at 3am have at least 3 gigs, leaving Windows with breathing room before they realized its beginning to slow down. Since these machines are built to simply “get by”, there is defenitely more opportunity to clutter up. Download AVG Free and keep it clean!

Internet, and thats about it…If all you really do is type word documents, surf the web, and check your email, these are GREAT.

Many people have asked me about these new Mini-Laptops coming out, ranging in 8″ to 10″ in size. Although these laptops are nice, i would highly recommend you not use them as your main machine, and use the Mini as your portable “get around” laptop.
Price-wise, many of these range in a huge price scale…however, it is important to know what exactly you’re buying before you buy.

I think Mini-Laptops are an example of the awesome power of the advancement of technology. Just think before you buy.
