5 Most Common Disciplines Within Forensic Science

There are many disciplines within forensic science that all work together to figure out the truth of what happened in the course of crimes. They are not all needed in every instance but each is valuable in its own right. Here are the 5 most common disciplines within forensic science and what each one entails. Forensic Anthropology Forensic anthropology takes anthropology and uses it in the context of a legal setting. The way that this is done is through the identification of skeletal remains. Forensic anthropology can often be used to determine a surprising amount of detail about a person from their skeleton such as age, sex, stature, history of physical trauma, and certain diseases. This information is incredibly useful as it helps to narrow down the potential identities of the victim when identification is not easily done. Forensic Psychology Just like forensic anthropology, forensic psychology takes the principles of psychology and applies them so that the information gleaned may be used in a legal setting. Forensic psychology looks at the mindset and motives of individuals involved in criminal activities and can be applied to a wide range of criminal cases. It may also involve itself with such things as an individual’s competency to stand trial and issues of criminal responsibility. This psychological work is different from the usual because the client in this case is not requesting to be examined or profiled by a psychologist. Forensic Toxicology This type of discipline of forensic science concerns itself with poisons, their effects, and indicators that point to specific poisons. Various substances or chemical compounds that are discovered at a crime scene may be analyzed by forensic professionals specializing in toxicology to determine the nature of these chemicals and substances, their potential health effects, and what role, if any, they played in the crime. There are a variety of tests that may be used in forensic toxicology like spectrophotometric tests, chromatographic tests, and chemical spot tests. Most of these tests are carried out in a lab setting but some can be completed in the field. One excellent example of a field test is the presumptive blood test to tell if a substance is blood or not. Forensic Odontology This is the discipline of forensic science that works to identify remains using dental records. This form of forensic science can be especially helpful at the scenes of events with large numbers of casualties. Forensic odontology may be used to estimate the age of both living and deceased individuals. Another notable application is the matching of bite marks on a person or an object to the dentition of an individual. Cyber Forensics Cyber forensics is growing in popularity as online crimes become more common. This is a rapidly changing discipline within forensic science but generally concerns itself with the acquisition, preservation, and analysis of information from computers. The scope of cyber forensics is changing as quickly as the ways that the criminal element learns to use computers to commit crimes changes. This is an exciting and relatively new application of forensic science. |

How to Streamline Your Non Profit Website Templates
Last Updated on Saturday, 23 July 2011 09:13 Written by ramadhona Friday, 22 July 2011 01:48
Optimizing your non profit website templates to their fullest potential is always a must in order to avoid falling into the “cookie-cutter website” trap that amateurish web developers and technologically inexperienced nonprofit organizations tend to fall victim to. A template, even non profit website templates, should only be considered as guides to the web developer. A website should be customized in accordance to the brand or identity of the nonprofit organization that”s backing it as well as the objectives for making the site in the first place. The website should accommodate the content and material that the organization has in its possession, not the other way around. Don”t force yourself in creating videos and commercials when your strong points are articles and entries fit for the blog format, and don”t shoehorn forums when your greatest strength is through podcasts and building a community of followers through the comments.
Everything Must Be Consistent
Your greatest asset when it comes to using nonprofit templates is the fact that it”s fairly easy to keep everything consistent all throughout, from the colors and design of the site to its function to encourage donations, fund research on presently incurable diseases, evangelize the world, or spread awareness on an important issue. Your content should always take the center stage while your website should merely be your multimedia and communication tool to showcase your material. An air of consistency must be maintained from your trustworthy donation software to your mission-vision for your nonprofit company. Everything must be on the up-and-up, so that donors won”t feel like they”re being scammed into supporting your cause even though that”s not necessarily your intent.
Although this point seems par for the course, it bears stating: templates should also be bug-free in order to avoid complaints and prevent turning off your visitors with a site that doesn”t work at all regardless of how well-designed or aesthetically pleasing it is otherwise. What”s more, all the websites should have a transparent type of design in order to earn the faith, trust, and sympathy of their contributors. By an “honest” design, this means making the navigation of your site as straightforward as possible. You shouldn”t force or “trick” your visitors into ending up into the donation page; you should make them choose to go there. Don”t ever force your visitors to end up in a page or place they didn”t intend to go. There should be no misleading text or links in your webpage whatsoever.
